Initial Teacher Training

A key responsibility of the Leicestershire Catholic Teaching School Alliance is to promote and develop best practice in Initial Teacher Training.  Our School Direct course for both primary and early primary trainees is therefore offered through the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT (School-Centred Initial Teacher Training) – an outstanding provider.

The LCTSA is represented on the SCITT Management Board and therefore works very closely with the trainers on the course’s design.  The SCITT also uses the training room on the infant site of Christ the King Catholic Voluntary Academy thus furthering the closeness of our relationship.

Many SCITT and School Direct trainees gain employment in partnership schools across the SCITT and the School Direct alliances. Employment figures have been 100% for SCITT and SCITT School Direct trainees seeking employment for the last three years.

I applied for the Leicester and Leicestershire School Direct SCITT programme, working in partnership with Christ the King Catholic Voluntary Academy because I always knew I wanted to work in a faith-based school. The school direct teacher training programme enabled me to gain more insight and first hand experience working in 3 different primary schools in Leicester, including Christ the King for a nine week summer term placement. The tutors, the school staff and the programme trainers have all been so helpful, supportive and caring, providing me with expert advice and knowledge that I can now apply in my classroom with my own Reception class. The programme has also enabled me to apply what I have learnt in training within different year groups. I have had experience working in Reception and Years 1 and 2. This provided me with a well-rounded experience of working in Early Primary, whilst also preparing me for different employment opportunities. It has been such a valuable and rewarding experience and I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to pursue a career in primary school teaching.
